It would be entirely inappropriate to list such a person as a co-author since they did not personally engage in the research; they simply acted as an "editor" for the purpose of revising the paper before publication.

Anon re: pre-approved: I read those papers before accepting them, and they are not mediocre. Accepting a paper without discussion at the PC meeting does not mean that nobody looks at it.Matt Welshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07077674014671176946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9186457242428335144.post-20546849677307882082011-03-19T03:09:03.085-07:002011-03-19T03:09:03.085-07:00I think you just stumbled upon the main reason med...I think you just stumbled upon the main reason mediocre papers get accepted into 'top' conferences as they've been pre-approved.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9186457242428335144.post-14240519637666367292011-03-18T13:51:00.025-07:002011-03-18T13:51:00.025-07:00In the Acknowledgment section of some conference p...In the Acknowledgment section of some conference papers, there is sometimes a thank you note to a big professor that played the role of a 'shepherd'. What does this mean? Why doesn't the 'big professor''s name get included as a co-author?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9186457242428335144.post-40348704231831831222011-03-17T13:35:49.368-07:002011-03-17T13:35:49.368-07:00And thanks for sending the reviews so far in advan...And thanks for sending the reviews so far in advance! The CFP had advertised a response by March 25, so when I found the rejection in my inbox on March 11, it caught me off guard and without any time to have gotten nervous about the outcome. :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
